"Burning spheres" - ADRES type

One of the types of ADRES phenomenon is best described as "burning spheres" due to the way it was felt by the Affected Person.  It constitutes and induction of what is felt as a "burning" region commonly of a spherical shape overlapping the body resulting in a perception of "shape of a foreign substance" overlapping a body region after lengthy exposure, and possibly accompanied by an unpleasant perception of a residue present on the surface of the skin at the application sites.  This technique is most commonly felt in the knees, but was also felt being applied to the head and wrists according the reports of the AP.

The application of the "burning spheres" ADRES to the knees would often result in an unpleasant sensation of something being present on the surface of the skin at the knees and a desire to wash if off.

The application to the head would sometimes result in a perception of the shape within the head presumably attributed to the contour of a "burning sphere". induced in the head.  For example, during the times when the AP started using an oversized stainless steel canister filled with water in place of a sleeping pillow, the "burning spheres" relocated shortly after so that they would still overlap the head but not the stainless steel canister.  In response to that the AP strapped a small hip flask filled with water to the forehead in addition.  Shortly after that the "burning sphere" affecting the head was felt to reduce in diameter and shift within the head as to neither intersect the oversized sleeping pillow water-filled flask, nor the small flask strapped to the forehead (the "burning sphere" would be completely enclosed inside of the head).

Countermeasures:  No exact shielding configuration has been established for this type of ADRES.  It was found however that placing stainless steel water-filled canisters at the sites where the "burning spheres" are felt is helpful.  Examples of such applications include strapping water filled steel flasks to the sides of the knees, and strapping a water canister to the forehead with an elastic bandage.

The "burning spheres" would almost never leave any traces on the skin of the Affected Person with the exception of two occurrences (as can be seen in Fig. 1a, 1b, and 2a respectively) while at the Hampton, VA 23666 research site.  Both times the traces were observed immediately after waking up from sleep and went away shortly after.  Both times the observed traces were accompanied by a burning sensation and a light pink trace at the surface of the skin on one of the hands.  The traces observed are considered by the AP to have been caused by the "burning spheres" ADRES phenomenon.

During the first occurrence the Affected Person was sleeping in the couch (early stages of the pre-DIVAN couch cover experiments) with the hand shown located closest to the edge of the couch.  The sleeping position/location for the second occurrence was not recorded but was not while sleeping in the couch to the best of AP's memory.
